Runaway
Runaway is my capstone project for my degree, showcasing all of the skills I have learnt thus far. It was developed in Unreal Engine.
Runaway is a third-person narrative game developed in Unreal. It was developed across 8 months with a team of 15 people. The game has a unique focus on queer development, with the entire crew being queer and upholding queer values.
I was the director/producer of Runaway, mainly focusing on leading the artistic vision and managing the team to create it. I dabbled in all other aspects of the game, whether it be concept art, coding, sound design, narrative, etc.
As mentioned earlier, Runaway keeps queer development at the core of its values every step along the way. I worked with my team to ensure everyone was able to discuss ideas or problems, and to ensure we were all comfortable and supported.
Although I was mainly at an organisational and design level within the project, I also coded and implemented the save system. It has multiple slots and allows the player to save which chapter they’re up to.
Runaway taught me how to organise a larger team at a professional standard. I’ve had to learn how to draft contracts, sign on new hires, work with larger scope and third-party events, and how to reach and retain players.
